Last year I had little clumps of hair on my cheeks and bum fluff on my chin/ stache. This past year has definitely been my biggest improvement, but I don't know if its good enough for a beard. I usually just let it grow for a week, then shave - repeat. Sometimes I let the goatee/stache go for about 12 days. I'm going on vacation in a week, so I figured this is the time to see if I can grow one. This is 8 days of growth so far, what do you think? left right (my side burn is struggling. I never had this problem before. It hardly connects now ever since I trimmed them with a buzzer - it's really bugging me) front from afar Do you think this has potential to become a beard in about 4 weeks? No. Will it still be a beard? Yes. I know you have certain expectations of how you'd like your beard to look, but few guys at 19 have a fully matured beard, but that doesn't mean you should not try it. With some carving, you may find a look that suits you very well for now. In 5 years or so, a full beard without any weak spots may be achievable or it may never be. So why wait? Give yourself a good 2 months before giving up. At that point in time, I bet you'll find you have good potential for a goatee, chinstrap or perhaps even a carved out full beard. Patience shall be rewarded!

Sideburns and mustache should also come in if you give them a couple weeks. Cant really tell how well the goatee and sideburns connect yet. As far as your temple hair connecting to the right sideburn : if you grow both your hair and the beard out, you should be able to blend over the weaker part. 8 days, is very early in beard growing. Good timing on the trip/ facial hair growing btw. Keep us posted.

I know my stache doesn't connect anywhere and that my cheeks aren't fully covered (which I don't mind). What I meant by "...potential to become a beard" is if I give it enough time, will it become thick enough not to look, in other words, stupid? I'll go for as long as I can. I work in an office (they don't mind facial hair at all), I just happen to be by far the youngest there. I've grown for 8 days, this is my last week of work and then I'm going on vacation for about 18 days. I want to arrive back at the office with a decent beard, I'd like the shock factor. When you say "good potential for a goatee", does it include my stache? I love the look of beards and goatees, but honestly I couldn't have either without a stache. I don't think I'm going to try a chinstrap, because I don't really like the look of them. Also, I notice lots of tiny thin black hairs in the areas where there isn't any coverage (especially around my stache area... it extends it quite far, down to my cheek/chin growth on an angle). So, youll be back in at 26 days, almost 4 weeks... You'll look like a guy growing a beard. Mustaches in general grow slower. So, try to be patient with it and i think youll be surprised.

My 'stache grows at roughly half the rate of my chin, so you have to give it time to "catch up". It could take 3 months! Let it grow for the full 26 days and then if you really want to carve to the 'stache+goat, go ahead. It's not ideally how long you should let it grow, but it's better than nothing. The connectors don't have to be there for it to look good! Lots of guys wear it that way. Remember it won't be perfect after only 4 weeks or so, but it will get much better if you just let it grow another 4 weeks or more. Don't let that voice in your head make you shave. Be determined and courageous and you'll be happy you stuck it out, even if you eventually decide to shave and try again sometime in the future. Patience shall be rewarded!

I have to work this week from Monday to Friday and then I am off until August 10th. I have grown for 8 days, so that will give me about 37 days of growing until I go back to work. So, just over 5 weeks. I see what you're saying about the 8 weeks Dano, but that seems like A LONG time. It's all part of growing up. It helps if you commit to a date and avoid mirrors along the way. If you get any negative comments, brush them off. Most people don't know what they are talking about when it comes to beard growth, and people say hurtful things sometimes just to get under your skin. I have yet to hear a guy regret sticking to his 8 week plan. While some end up shaving, at least they learned what their beard will look like when fully grown. Only then can one make an informed decision. Patience shall be rewarded!

If there's a job or anything you need to shave for when you get back then at that point you'll have a good idea about what to carve it into. You have alot of developing facial hair so if you feel like you come up empty this time around you can be confident that your beard is getting better and better and soon enough you're probably going to have no problems growing whatever you want with ease.

Dermatologists, have found no evidence of shaving helping beard growth. Possible reasons for this myth are: 1) Short hair is not worn down, so it is thicker and darker than a grown hair. 2) People get older so after a time of shaving there probablyw ill be more hair; but only from natural causes. Perhaps this is for the better or else leg-shaving women would have some serious problems after a few years.

Just let everything grow during your holiday, no shaving or trimming at all, then review as late as you can before you return to work. One word of caution though, it normally takes a couple of months to a decent beard to grow out and settle in. Even when you return from holiday you will still be well short of the period. Don't be discouraged. A little bit of trimming will probably give you a very acceptable style that will then continue to fill in over the comming weeks. I am affraid you will not be meeting your colleagues with a full thick beard in just 18 days time, that isn't realistic. But you can have a new and very cool style.

I do shave against the grain (only way I can get rid of the hair). Thanks hatebein, I know I wont have a "full thick beard", but I was just wondering if I would at least be able to grow a decent one. I want to give you guys an update right now, but I have n cameras here... it looks a lot better already. I have so many little hairs inbetween my growth, especially in the stache area... its nuts. I've almost reached my record amount of days without shaving. My sideburns still struggling, looks abit better, but it still really bothers me. Especially since I want to cut my head hair, but I'm afraid to because of it.

It's been about 4 and a half weeks now. I still have 5 days to grow before going back to work. Sorry for the quality of the images. I just got up and I'm too tired/lazy to try to get better ones. left right - the lightning in both of my cheek pictures make them look a bit different, but they're pretty much even. Side burn is much better, the picture hardly shows it, though. front neck from afar The whole time I was on my trip, I really did not like the look of my beard. I thought it looked horrible. I came close to shaving so many times, and I was actually going to 3 days ago but, surprisingly, my mom saved it. Now that I'm back home I think it looks much better for some reason. My brother and sister were pretty impressed with it. I'm going to college at the end of August and I plan on either trimming this or just having stubble (I hate being clean shaven). What do you guys think of it?

It really defines your jawline and is well balanced too. As you have only had it for 4 1/2 weeks, it still will fill in much more. I hope you are able to give it as much time as possible before making any decisions (at least 8 weeks in total would be best). Will there be an issue at your work with it? You have it edged well and I think it really suits you. As far as college goes, there are often many bearded gents in colleges. As you can grow a nice one you might enjoy sporting it there as well. If my life is for rent and I don't learn to buy, well I deserve nothing more than I get cos nothing I have is truly mine - Dido (Life for Rent)

The only suggestion I would make is that you consider carving out the cheeks for the time being until you get more coverage in those areas. Keep growing. Stay bearded! wulff
