NO facial hair at 17 |
Lead | |
|
Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have wanted a goatee for a while, but for some reason i cannot grow one. I have no sideburns at all, it is smooth as a
baby's butt. My chin has a few hairs but nothing to write home about and my upper lip can only grow the thin soft peach-fuzz hair. Its really embarassing
considering everybody else my age has a goatee or atleast sideburns. I am 17 1/2 and i have the facial hair of a 13 year old. The worst part is, i have lots of
hair everywhere else ( armpits, pubes, stomach) so i know i can grow. Any advice on how i should go about thickening the hair on my face or maybe even
jumpstarting the growth of my sideburns?? Thanks.

Here are some tips:
1. Don't shave anymore. 2. Post pic's Its hard enought to give advice with pic's let along without, so get them up! Also shaving does NOT make your beard thicker so just stop shaving and show up what you have to work with bro. |

It's not a lot of facial hair, but you definitely have some coming in. I know it *seems* like everyone else your age has facial hair, but the fact is that
most 17 year olds don't have much growth yet. Many of the guys that don't have to start shaving until they are 20 or older can grow massive beards by
the time they are 30. Perhaps you'll be one of those guys or perhaps not.
In the meantime, just try not to think about it. Perhaps you should let your goatee grow for awhile and see how it turns out. With a lot of patience and fortitude, you might be able to sport something you like.
Patience shall be rewarded!

Thanks for the kind words man. I have decided to shave the mustache and just let the goatee grow. I figure if i leave it along for awhile it might actually
look like something.

Don't think that you're some kind of freak because you don't have a massive beard at 17. At least you have the beginnings of a moustache and goatee
which is more than I had at your age. My facial hair only started coming in, at the sideburns, when I was nearly 18, but by my mid 20s it was well established.
The fact is that there is quite a wide age range at which facial hair starts to develop, and for those that are "late bloomers" there is usually
nohing to worry about: by the time they are into their 20s they will probably have caught up with or even surpassed those whose beards started at an earlier
age.

i would say late bloomer is person who dont have noticable facial hair by the time he is 22-25 or little older.so when it starts developing 18-19 its
completely normal time for that.
most go trough puberty at the age 17 and the beard is last thing to come.at some point nature USUALLY just let it grow rapidly and things develop really fast. |

margus wrote:I am not sure what you mean by that, margus, but it is an established fact that ever since the 1840s the age of the onset of puberty both for boys and girls has been getting earlier. These days the onset of puberty for boys is reckoned normally to be between the ages of 10 and 14. The time taken for all the physical changes to be completed varies, and of course you are right in saying that facial hair is usually the last thing to make its appearance. Nevertheless, based on evidence from many members of this board regarding the age of their first shave it would seem that the majority have developed some level of facial hair - though seldom full beards - between the ages of 14 and 16, and those that have little or no facial hair by the age of 18 can be considered "late bloomers". Certainly the beard continues to develop into a man's 20s and even later, but I would say that these days the majority of 18 to 19 year-olds will have noticeable facial hair, even if not complete beards. One of the principal reasons for an earlier age of puberty is nutrition, and in societies where nutritional levels are low, the age of the onset of puberty remains late. I noticed this when I was living in Honduras. The average Honduran is short in stature, but it was noticeable how much taller and forward in their development were the adolescent Hondurans from the better-off families many of whom were going to school/university in the USA and were clearly enjoying a better diet than their poorer compatriots. wulff |

i sayd they still go trough puberty in that age.
and seriously we cant say its a beard when there is only few hairs on the face.you are right that many start developing beard at age 14-15 but its more like light hair and nothing like real beard. also HERE on beard we have members who are intrested in beard and have better potential than most theyr friends at the same age. its almost impossible to make any general statistic by looking members here who are in theyr early teens. |

Thats right, Im 16 and im still developing a little, i think in less than a year you can grow a fuul beard

i think you shouldnt make unrealistic hopes BUT ofc its all possible, cause we newer know.
im jsut sayng it because when you see that you havent got your full beard by that time then there is nothing wrong and you shouldn tbe worried..thats it. |

Also, the pics you are seeing are the growth of about 10 days. yeah i know it sucks, but do you think if i were to let it grow for another 10 days it would be
twice as thick, or just twice as long??

manofstubble wrote:Your beard will look thicker as afre weeks pass. There are hairs that "fill in" between the darker thicker hairs that show up first. Most guys don't allow the time for these hairs to come it. I am sure if you just leave everything on your chin alone for 4-6 weeks it will look atleast twice as thick...atleast. Just don't shave it bro, you have more hair in your pics than I imagined from your first past and actually I'd say you have more hair than I did at 17. |

Why say you have no facial hair when you actually do? I'd say let the goatee grow a bit, it'll look a lot thicker.

Dude you have roughly the same amount of facial hair I did at 17. Absolutely zilch. There's no need for you to keep growing it out because there isn't
anything to grow at the moment. Just keep shaving so you look nice and clean. It will almost definitely eventually come in. I'm 34 and don't have the
greatest beard but I have one. My strong points are my mustache and goatee.
I'd say I pulled off a pretty weak goatee at 21. It was better at 25. And real solid at 27. It was a long time to wait but it happened. Then at 33 my beard made major improvements and still continues to improve at 34. I feel for ya bro but all you can do is wait. It will eventually come in bro. Some of us just have to wait longer

i already edited what i wrote, come on guys it was only joke no need to blow this out of proportion
about beardedteen i like the guy and sometimes i like to joke with him that's it i never tried to offend beardedteen just because i wrote that on a forum doesn't make me less respectful and deserving than another person, you don't know me at all how are you supposed to know how a person actually is just because of what he or she posts on a forum by the way if the author of the post just plain leaves the forum and gives up on facial hair just because of what i wrote then maybe he doesn't deserve to be in this forum he has some hair on his beard that he can definitely grow but still he prefers to play the victim and say that he doesn't hair at all how are we supposed to help him if he doesn't even has confidence in himself, all we can say is that he has some growth and that he should try letting it grow for some weeks, that he should have patience, when he gets older he will have a better beard, we didn't have beads at 17, etc etc etc that's all we can say, we cannot help him at all, but he prefers to play the victim saying that he has no hairs at all and even compares himself with other friends of his age that can grow goatees my joke might have been kinda offensive which i didnt mean to, but jcainhaze reply is pretty freaking offensive if you ask me because he doesn't know anything about me, just because i'm honest and say whats on my mind doesn't make a troublemaker or a jerk how did i insult people before jcainhaze?? please send me a link from a topic where i insulted someone i never insulted anybody here all i did was make jokes from time to time just like other people do, for example beardedteen just because he is an old member and im new here doesn't mean i'm not allowed to speak my mind and make jokes just because i said i found some favoritism in the forum etc etc on the castaway challenge, how in the world is that an insult jcainhaze? I do have to admit, i pick on beardedteen sometimes, but he doesn't mind because we both know that im only joking that's all hes a really great guy and im even watching his videos on youtube so how am i picking on him or offending him? like i said what i wrote shouldn't influence this 17 year old guy on not posting again or giving up on beards but if it does then i guess he just cares too much about what other people think by the way im happy to be part of this board and try to post from time to time, i made a mistake yes i apologize it was only joke but i guess after you guys read this is going to blow out of proportion, if the moderator wants to delete my replies is fine by me i won't post on this topic anymore

unfortunaly jcainhaze decided that it was needed to be offensive to make his point across, it was really rude to say that i have crap on my face and that
you woudl give that to beardedteen just because he is more deserving than me in your eyes
