I was asking if anyone thought I should go for a full beard, if I recall correctly. Today, 1 month and 10 days after I began growing it, I feel quite pleased with the progress! Maybe when it turns 2 or 3 months it's gonna be looking awesome. I just wanted to thank all of you for everything you guys post here, because even tho I don't post lots, I'm always reading the threads, and you guys gave me motivation when I felt like shaving. Now, I have even thrown out all my razors, shaving creams, etc... no more shaving here! By the way, I used a webcam that has a flash and I don't know how to remove that. The beard actually looks better than the pics, since there are blonde hairs on the cheeks that seem to have disappeared due to low quality, flash or both. And I'm quite happy about the fact that there are connectors starting to show up between the stache/goatee and stache/cheeks as well The first pic is a repost of the one from weeks ago, and the other two are from today. I agree, that in two or three more months it'll be a thick full beard judging by the progress made during the last month.

Think it would help, or maybe hinder the whole process since my beard isn't very thick?

Beard Legend Posts: 4617 (05/11/09 14:36:25) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Personally I think that carving a neckline would be helpful to your beard-growing efforts since it would move the focus of your facial hair away from the neck - where it is quite thick and may eventually unbalance the look of your beard - and on to your face. A neckline helps to give definition to a growing beard and many first ttime growers have been surprised at the difference it makes. Beard Master Posts: 729 (05/12/09 01:20:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	When I grew my beard to its longest (resulting in a natural neckline, and mine is lower on the neck than yours), I let the neckline creep down, but always so that the ends of the chin hairs were even with or below the neckline. This kept a down-and-forward sweep on the bottom edge of the beard at all times, which is how I like my beard at any length. Your tastes may be different from mine.

I've been busy with college so I haven't posted anything here, but the beard is strong as ever. I thought about carving the neckline, but when I was about to do it I decided to back off, didn't have the heart to cut it Now I am quite glad, since I've been growing for 3 months and I love my beard at the moment. It's still missing some connectors as you can see, especially under the nose in the middle of the moustache, but it's ok, I love it more each day. Thank you all for all the advice and encouragement, I'm sure it would have been harder for me to grow it if it weren't for everyone here. I have already gone past the stage where people would give me crap for growing it, they already realized it won't change my mind. I'm shooting for AT LEAST a year growth, really wanna see what it'll look like then! Without further ado, here's my first (kind of) full beard at 90 days: Thanks again for all the kind words, cheers!

I did NOT expect such a positive reaction from everyone! Jcainhaze, I didn't expect it to become like this either you know? I just got real attached to it, and decided I would let it grow no matter what. Even though it's not the most dense beard in the world, I'm quite satisfied with how it is right now. I'm not even gonna trim the 'stache. You should really try to grow yours again if that's what you want, it may surprise you like mine surprised me! And Hatebeinsmooth, I'll definitely try to get a better camera for next month's update, since I'm taking these pictures with my laptop's webcam. I too believe a shot in daylight with a decent camera will make quite a difference in how it looks. Thanks again for the support guys, reading your posts and watching your beards grow was what kept me going in the start when I was insecure about my own whiskers. I look forward to your update with better lighting. I can only imagine that if it looks like that under poor conditions how amazing it will look in decent light. Also you might try taking a shot a little further back just so you can get a sense of the overall look. Any idea of the length you are going for? I was really hoping that it would serve as some kind of inspiration to all the guys out there who have seemingly very crappy beards when they're cut to give their beards a chance. I decided to give mine one and now I'm very happy with it! So all you guys who mentioned growing your beards for the first time, do it! Just do it, and even when you feel it's going nowhere, stick with it! It pays off in the end! About the length, my first sort of "goal" would be to have it reach my clavicles. I never really thought about a goal until you mentioned it, since I was just gonna let it grow all it wants, but now that you mentioned it, the clavicles do seem like a good first goal for me. Before 1914, a greater percentage of European and North American men, including younger men, grew and kept their beards than do today. In contemporary pictures of men produced from the European Middle Ages until 1914 (paintings and photographs, portraits and idealized pictures), from Europe and then also from North America, I see beards in a great variety of follicle patterns. No matter how the beards were trimmed and/or and carved, they were still influenced by their follicle patterns. In contemporary images of European and North American men since 1914, and among the men I have seen during my lifetime, the variety of follicle patterns in grown-out beards (trimmed, carved, or natural) has been much, much less. I assume that phenotypes in humans can't change very much in 95 years. Therefore, I have concluded that the previously-pictured variety still exists, but fewer patterns have been grown out during my lifetime. Perhaps too many men are still doing what some of us have done, looking at stubble and prematurely dismissing the chances of being satisfied with one's beard. Germani, your pattern is one of those that is grown out less nowadays. I'm glad to see you showing it. Taking the opportunity now to grow the beard down to the clavicles sounds great. Then you can decide whether to grow it longer, keep it that length, or trim it back. If you trim it back, my suggestion would be to shape the bottom edges into a consistent, down-and-forward sweep from the beard's rear bottom corners to the ends of the chin hair. Enjoy!
