As for the barber, I would be very clear about what you want done, as many barbers have a tendency to cut too much off. You should bring/show that picture as your goal beard so that he has an idea of what you want. I think that I'd only sharpen the lines and a very minimal surface trim at this point. Your growth pattern is somewhat different from the beard model so it won't look quite the same, but you can emulate the style. I'd say that you need about 3 months further growth to get there. With that, it's time to ask if you are ready to move over to the established side in short beards? Just give us the word, and we'll take care of you.

Welcome to short beards! Looks great.
Good luck with barber. If you want to continue toward your goal (and I fine goal it is), please be very firm with him about only a very minor surface trim. I wouldn't worry too much about shaping it just yet...

Welcome to the established beard board.

Luckily your beard is short enough to get away with it and it looks ok.
If I were you I'd reset your neckline and cheeklines, they will grow back in and blend reasonably quickly. Next time be more firm with the (different?) barber as with a longer beard the trim would have been a disaster I think.
