Slybeard wrote:You are just past the half way point that we recommend for growing a new beard, and that is 13 weeks. Also, blonde beards usually take a little longer to look full. So I recommend you give it at least 13 weeks untrimmed before judging it (neckline carving is acceptable). And being blonde, you may need a little longer. Take a look at some of the photos in the Patchy Beard Success Stories linked below for examples. Good luck and keep us posted (I recommend at least weekly updates) on your progress for advice and encouragement.

That said, I think you have something to work with. If I were you, I would keep the moustache, chin, and the sideburns, making a horizontal line with the sideburns at the very bottom of the ear. That way you are maximising what is working well for you. You can then continue to grow those, and once in a stable job consider working with the rest. However, you may be happy enough with what you have 'kept' to develop just those for the foreseeable future.

I was sad to lose any growth at first, but I think it looks much better now. For folks like me, it might be a good idea on the 13 week journey to even out the faster growing hairs with the slower growing. Will post a pic in a bit to get your opinions.

I look forward to the pics. Shaving the sides will probably boost your confidence a lot. And the goatee/long sideburns will still look great. But don't lose heart. You are still in your 30s, so there's a good chance the sides may still fill in later. I'm 44, and my connectors are still coming in!

Ok so here's the pics. Be honest, I have diamond skin. How does it look? Should I just go with the goatee?

The sparseness on the left side may cover over with length- but that would require a LOT of length. I don't know how long of a beard you intend to grow. If you want to maintain a shorter beard, I would go ahead shave the cheeks and do the goatee/long sideburns look. But if you want to grow a longer beard (at least 4 inches), I wouldn't shave the sides. It's your face, so do what you want. Either way, good luck!

As as someone who interviews a reasonable amount your beard is not a problem unless it makes you feel unconfident. To be honest someone's hairstyle facial hair etc is unimportant. They will be more interested in your skills and abilities. Put it on a sharp suit, nice shoes . Rock your beard and sell yourself . Good luck with the job!
