Hello all, my name is Billy, I'm 20 years old. Firstly, I have two older brothers. My eldest brother can grow a beard no problem, but he's my half brother (different father but same mother). My middle full brother can hardly grow a beard at all, it grows in patchy and not full, and my dad has had a hard time growing one himself through his life but was finally able to and has a pretty decent one. My cousin whom we always hang out with (cousin on my dads side) cant really grow one. Myself, I actually had grown one around the chin area and had a mustache for a while, I couldnt grow much in other areas though. So I had a doorknockerish beard. My facial hair is pretty light (matches my dirty blonde hair color). I had only grown it for a month, and while it took a while to grow it, it was full and if I combed the hair down on my chin and mustache, they actually looked a bit darker, slightly brown. Anywho, apparently my middle brother and cousin hadnt been paying attention, because a month after I shaved it all off I talked of growing them out again.
To which I get the response "We cant grow facial hair bro, dont even try" and if I respond with "Well, I think that I can, because Ive done it before." I get "No bro, we just can't, were clean shaven dudes, that's just how it is man. None of us can." and if I at ALL, at ALL try to suggest I might have gotten a different gene for it than they did, it's refuted, and I'm told to shut up, or I'm not listening.
Is there something wrong here? Am I really missing the point or are they? I thought it may be reasonable to say I have a different gene because my half brother on my moms side can grow one. So maybe the gene for beard growing that I got came from my mothers side rather than my fathers? (Like my cousin and brother clearly have). Or is that not how genetics work? Either way I've DEFINITELY had one before, and it wasnt patchy at all.
Right now I work for a pizza shop so I have to keep shaving. But I'm going to be getting a job in landscaping soon and they do not give a flying !%%* about beards. So once I get that job and put my two weeks in at the pizza shop I'm planning on growing one.
My main question though, was, am I hypothesizing correctly? Based on your experiences and knowledge what do you guys think?
Thanks ahead of time.
