My face haven't felt a razor since 9th grade, however, it has never quite reached my preferred length/style. I'm now finally working on reaching that beard goal. My only concern(if it can be called that) involves the fact that once it reaches a certain length, it gets rather wavy and some spots curl upwards. Is this common? Are there any beard-y products to help tame it a bit? Will it fix itself as it gets past that length? I've always trimmed it down at this point so I have not tried anything else.
I work my state's Renaissance Faire and I'm typically casted as a pirate - so any super scruffy beard tips are loved. More or less if I am even capable of having a thicker beard at this point in life, also.

This is my current progress, about two weeks since my last trim with a #2

&This having been the stage before the total trim. My cheeks had been shortened due to the beforementioned cheek curl, thing.
Any tips, tricks, or etc are greatly appreciated.
