It's hard to even notice your sides with that tall, thick stache and matching accessories below the lip. So glad you have really settled into your beardedness... the beard is just getting better and better for you.
When you turn 20, let me know if you want this thread move to an adult forum and tell if that forum would be for a developing beard journey or an established journey. I hope it doesn't surprise you that I think you have an established journey now. My kudos!

The beard has given you a more mature look and perhaps that serious look reflects just that.
I don't see much difference from one side to the other... if I was you, I would just let the beard continue to develop up the sides.
I don't know if you are going for Taylor's look but I think your style looks better with chin hair rather than stubble. I would, however, keep the chinstrap slightly trimmed as any poofing is going to detract from the stache.
It's always great to get confirmation from family members... I'm sure they also have picked up on the fact that you are looking more manly and mature with the beard... a good thing for a young lad soon to leave his teen years.

When looking at your beard close up, you will focus on your beard deficiencies more... but thankfully, others see you from more of a distance and their brains blend the entire face, unless as in your case, the stache is such a standout.
Let me know on your next update if you want your thread moved or you will start a new one. Also, let me know if you want the established or estasblishing forum.

You have a very complete beard look and are entering your adult years with a great start on your beard journey.
Would you like this thread moved to an adult forum or will you start a new thread there? Also, which adult forum?... Establishing for those wanting help or not fully accepted their beardedness... Established for those who know what they are doing with occasional advice but definitely have accepteded their beardedness.
