I'm not sure about shaving the parts that aren't strong -- your beard is always growing and recruiting new areas, as you will notice from some of the threads where people post multi-year pictures. Anyway, I look forward to seeing how this develops. So far so good!

These pictures really point out the fact that you have very long transitional hairs. With certain lighting they do look darker but I'm sure they will darken naturally in the weeks ahead. I would just suggest that you brush the sides and possibly use some beard balm to get them going down and forward. If they insist on curling under the ear and gaining length, I would trim just those hairs. On the undercarriage hairs, goatee looks fine but I would probably trim the longer hairs further back until the full undercarriage develops.
Thanks for sharing about yourself... you are a brave young man to open yourself as you did. I marvel even more at the activity you do on this board, given your physical limitations. I have more to say and will be in PM to you. Looking forward to your updates.

You are taking control of your beard journey now and I know how that makes you feel good about it. While I think you could take the cheek line down a bit, I'm not ready to recommend as deep as inflames42 suggests. There are many choices available to the beard grower and the ultimate decision is his.
I kind of figured you would like the got2b... looks like it was a big hit for you and hopefully now you can stop all trims on the stache for a while. You do know that with a signature stache look, the rest of your beard will be hardly noticed... a good thing.

Your coverage is not that thick just yet and when the hairs get longer, they don't intertwine very much. That makes them more see-through, especially when there is air behind them as is the case of the goatee. When there is skin behind the hairs, they can appear to have a little more coverage but in truth, you'll need the slower starters and transitionals to take off before densities start looking more solid. The longer you let the goatee grow, the more see-through it will be... for that reason, I wouldn't let those hairs get super long.
How are the sides coming now? Are you starting to see a little more coverage? You always had a great looking stache and in this shot it shows very significant. The heavy stache with shorter goatee and emerging soul patch is a great look for you.
As for the tie collection... not too obvious... except for the white one which may top off your beard nicely Suits and ties always show the beard in a better light... I think because formality and a mature look coexist nicely.

You ask good questions... here would be my guess at some answers...
1. Slow starters after 5 months? - I doubt it... more likely transitionals going terminal at that point
2. Long recovery time for hairs that took couple months to show? - If these are transitionals that went terminal during that time, then they should show right up after a sh*ve. As for slower starters.. tougher question but I'm thinking if you regrew right away, they would probably come back quickly. There is an easy way to get these answers, but I don't recommend it.
You are being a real trooper in the patience you show as your beard develops. The good news is that you have some strong coverage that is a definite keeper and hopefully you will be rewarded soon with more beard in that category.

Well, to my surprise, many of them were growing beards, thanks to me! And a couple of us took a picture that we were gonna sent to another friend who's needed some encouragement!
Regarding your styling... sounds like you are on the right track and you are getting to point of making good decisions to show your beard nicely.
