Hey guys.
I work as a union millwright and was wondering if any of you guys also work in a trade with a lot of grinding, welding, torching, and or plasma cutting?
For those that do, how do you protect and care for your beard?
I am just starting mine, only about 4 months in. A few weeks ago, I met a union iron worker on a job that his beard extended about 2 inches below his grinding shield. Meeting him was what pushed me over the edge to grow mine out. I have always wanted to grow one and considered it, but seeing him with one proved to me that it can be done in my trade. I do see a lot of beards in the trades (millwrights, iron workers, pipe fitters, and electricians) but his was the longest, fullest, and by far the best looking one I have seen since joining the trades.
I work mostly in grain processing facilities and have a John Deere foundry close to home I get a fair amount of work in.
Mostly looking for tips on protection and care. I do have long hair as my last hair cut intentionally for length was my last week in the Navy before checking out on terminal leave, at the end of Aug '07.
Thanks for any help here guys.
