*Week #10 pics below*
So, I've started off on the beard wagon... For years, I've always kept a tight stubble, trimming every 3-4 days with an unguarded trimmer. The wife has always liked and encouraged it, and I've always felt it helps my rather young complexion for an early 30-something. My line of work takes me to asia for a week or two every quarter, so this time around I decided to have a go for the week that I'm here. I'd put my progress at about 3 weeks in from what would have constituted a clean shave. I've passed the worst of the itchiness, although I've been completely unprepared with any beard maintenance products... and you sure as heck can't readily find them over here, relying on avoiding the hotel soap in the beard area, using some conditioner daily after rinse, as well as brushing and combing for bias and neatness.
I've noticed a little bit of gray sprinkling in the chin area, which is amusing, as I do have a bit spread through the hair on my head. Hair on my head is thick and straight, so I'm hoping some of that straightness translates to the beard, to help facilitate a clean and groomed look as the length comes on.
Thoughts on what the results so far may yield for styling as time goes? Cheekline looks a little sparse, really not sure on how much more that may fill out along the top. We'll see what the wife thinks when I'm back in the states for the weekend.
****10 Week Update*****
The past couple weeks, the length and fullness has started to come on, and the beard care products have been essential in keeping things from getting out of whack. I've trimmed out a bit of the area on the underside of my jaw/neck in order to balance it out for the extra density that exists under there. It was getting a bit neck-heavy, so thinning it out with a trimmer brought some definition back.
My hairs are (in my estimation) a bit wirey, so the routine that seems to give me the best mix of styling control and health has been a moisturizing conditioner that goes on right after getting into the shower, then rinsed out just before finishing. Pat dry, and then apply beardbrand's styling paste, combed through, a couple drops of oil if it is a bone dry day (otherwise I have enough natural oils, and the extraneous lube seems to make the hairs get out of control), then moustache wax.
