Good day Brothers in Beards,
Roughly three weeks ago I decided to stop shaving. For the simplest of motivations...such as it being a time consuming and pointless activity. Now that the beard has grown over the past weeks it became clear it takes even more time. Still it is rather motivating. Going around the internet looking at different styles and having another layer of indivuality added into the mix...not to mention a possibility to be artistic.
Anyhow I've decided a style to go for. It feels onorthodox since it isn't listed in any of the examples found around the interwebz. So any advice and help along the way would be awesome and very much appreciated. First thing decided is that I hate a deep layer on my neck. That is why its decided to try and trim it round just above the adams apple. Now that I've seen a picture it isn't that neatly round...its not easy so I'll keep practicing. However since it'll grow out will you even notice it further down the road?
I've also experimented with no sideburns. Didn't like it so currently growing that back. As for my head hair...I'll keep it short. Shorter then shown in the pictures. As for a moustache... On the upper lip I don't like long hairs. So will trim it down to 3 or 3.5 millimeters. The side of the mouth I'm going to try and grow it out into a small braids slightly longer then my chin. For the beard I'm going for a thick long "rope" braid on the chin and underside of there. I don't want a thin weave, but a thick "rope" with a small mjolnir braided into the bottom. Everything else I'll trim to a certain size. Not sure which length I'd feel comfortable with and have to figure it out along the road. Might be 8mm, but could just as well become a 12mm beard...or even more.
For maintenance I've bought a Babybliss beard trim set. It has a pair of scissors, comb and 6 different lengths for the trimmer. I was the beard only twice a week using a shampoo with mint extracts. The other days I just rince it with water and nothing else. Read somewhere that washing it daily with shampoo gets rid of the fats and creates a dried out irritated skin underneath. Twice a week I'llĀ use the scissors to cut wild growths and dead ends to keep the hairs fresh and free to keep growing without trouble. And still maintain a somewhat clean look instead of a wildman...not that it would bother me though... Unsure whether to start using some oils or not. I simply have no experience with growing a beard and spending a lot of time reading up.
