PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST
The Beard Board is open to the public and as such, you should be careful what type of information you put into your posts, your profile or even your selected Yuku username. Some guys have actually used their real name when creating their Yuku username. This makes it very easy for someone to find their posts.
Google and other search engines will grab information from your posts and profiles. With targeted keyword searches, people will find your posts. This includes images as well. As a reminder, here is a copy of Beard Board Rule 19:
19. Be aware that when you post pictures of yourself on this or any Internet site, you have no control over how those pictures will be used. If this is of particular concern to you, then you should take measures to disguise yourself, such as blocking out your eyes or only showing the bottom half of your face. And of course you should never give out any personal information such as your real name, address or phone number on this or any public forum. Forum Managers may, at their discretion, edit posts to remove private information. The Beard Board staff takes no responsibility for your personal photographs or how they are used on other sites.
Ok, so given all this, why should you post here? Of course, like any social media site, there are many benefits to becoming part of a community. You may make friends, you certainly will get some excellent feedback on your beard, and you should have a lot of fun here.
With that in mind, we suggest you take the following precautions:
- Never use identifying information in your posts, your username, or your profile. For example, do not use your full real name, your address, your phone number, or links to other social media sites that might have this identifying information.
- When you post pictures, assume those pictures may be copied or used by someone without your best interests in mind. In other words, keep them G-rated and do not show anything that could be used to steal your identity, such as a driver's license with numbers visible.
- If you find out that someone has found you on the Beard Board that you are not comfortable with, then you have the option of asking a moderator to remove threads you created. We will not delete every post you have made, but we will remove entire threads. It is up to you to delete your own pictures in your profile and remove any links to other sites that have your pictures.
One final word and this is just my (Dano's) opinion. If you have followed all the precautions above and someone close to you happens to find you on the Beard Board anyway, do not overreact. There is nothing inherently wrong with a guy wanting to get some feedback on his beard with the simple intent to make himself look better. It does not mean you have a beard fetish or anything like that. Just own it...so you wanted advice on your beard. Be proud of your beard and the fact that you were willing to seek help. You might take some crap from your wife, girlfriend, buddies, mother and so on, but they likely will just think it is kind funny. At the end of the day they won't really think any less of you. It took me a long time to understand that myself, believe it or not.
