Sometimes I have a chuckle at these posts that say what works for one guy should work for all. I have had discussions on shampoos with my barber who explained how oils and hair textures enter into care of the hair. I had no idea that there is a difference in hair as it turns gray. The better shampoos are designed for particular hair situations and he selects the products that he knows will work for me.... and they do. The challenge for beards is that they are directly exposed to foods, drinks, and sometimes smoking products which must be removed some way or another, unless you don't mind carrying around some foul smells. For many, the beard comes in contact with wives and girlfriends who want something smooth against their skin [at least mine does].
Anyways, I have noticed in general that guys with bigger beards seem to shampoo and condition less than most guys just starting out. I assume this is partly due to the increased complexity of handling so much hair and perhaps it works out just fine to keep it simple. It may not mean it is the best it can be but there becomes a trade off between the effort and the benefit. If there is not benefit, then by all means stop doing it. Conditioning is especially good for new beard growers where the skin in not yet ready to accept hairs rubbing against it.
In my own case, I have been shampooing/conditioning with bluebeards once a week and conditioning with jojoba maybe 2-3 times a week. I like the way my beard looks and smells and feels... this maintenance takes practically no time at all... I am still on my first containers of these products since starting to grow last year. The combination of small effort, low expense and good result works for me.

Keith, Please don't jump out of the basement window... you may hurt yourself. My statement is a little misleading and I apologize.
What I find amusing is when a statement or proposition is made and everyone seems to jump on the bandwagon as if everyone has to take the same opinion. I've seen this on a wide variety of topics. Of course, I understand you're not forcing your ideas on anyone else... it's just your observation of your own results, it works for you and that's fine.
I only stated that my maintenance program works fine for me. I shampoo/condition my beard every Sunday before church and it feels good and looks a little better on that day than during the week. I have cut back a little on other maintenance during the week as I said. I have learned how to wipe coffee and wine, remove food particles as I eat and generally look presentable using many of the techniques we see on threads here. But I don't wash my beard until the next morning and there are bound to be leftover odors and what not in the hair until then. I have also noticed some coloring of the stache tips that hang over the lip and I believe this may be caused by coffee which, in white hair is noticeable.
Skin conditions vary from one person to another... oiliness, dryness, itchiness, young flexible hair vs. gray brittle hair, etc... and the maintenance program that we use should match those conditions for best results. That's why, IMO, one solution may not fit all but it does work for lots of guys with those same conditions.
