Hey guys! I'm 30 this year, and I decided to give growing a beard a shot. I'm about 3.5 weeks in, and despite some negative comments from my partner (who hates all facial hair unilaterally), everyone else has been mostly positive. I was originally going to go with a natural neckline, but I work in a corporate environment and didn't want to push things too far.

It seems like the density is a little on the thin side, but I'm going to stick with it for several more weeks to see if it thickens up as the hairs get longer. Any thoughts on that?

Welcome to the board,

Not bad at all for 3.5 weeks. Cheek density can change drastically as time goes on so don't worry too much about them yet. The partner issue can be the hardest part of growing a beard sometimes but most people come around after having facial hair for 3 - 6 months. If you really want a beard express that passion to your partner and they may lighten up a bit. Beard on!

Hey welcome to the board!! That is just fine progress for only 3.5 weeks more density through the front which is a really common growth pattern. The cheeks will fill in to if you give then enough time. If you make it to 12 weeks there will be a really drastic change in the fullness so try to be patient and wait it out until then. But enjoy the growing process and try to ignore negative comments.! Keep us posted man!

Welcome to the board. You have similar coverage to me and we are both about the same number weeks in. Before I started, I looked at other beards with similar coverage to what I expected and concluded that I could be satisfied with coverage that was not monster. Part of my assessment was that I envisioned myself with a more trimmed and styled beard which in turn could be more easily achieved by the amount of coverage I have.

Your challenge with your partner sounds pretty important and hopefully you can discuss your feelings on this in a rational manner with him [sooner rather than later]. I don't know what your business is, but in my business of computer consulting, I find it important to make my clients feel comfortable with me and that means wearing clothes and having an appearance that is not too much different from them. I believe a styled beard goes just fine with bearded or beardless clients Your situation may be totally different but hopefully you are thinking about it.

I hope that you can work things out and continue to grow because I believe you will have a great beard when all is said and done.

My partner's basically calmed down at this point, but he was a nightmare for the first couple of weeks. He's not super thrilled that the beard is still here, but he's at least quieted down about it.

Out of curiosity, what should I do if I feel like I've cut my neckline incorrectly? Is there a tried-and-true method for correcting that without looking terrible for weeks on end?

That's good to here your partner has accepted you being bearded! The best way to correct your neckline if you don't like where it is now is to let your neck hair all grow back then reshape it to your liking. Beards (especially necklines) repair thenselves very quickly so don't do anything to rash! Keep it going man! Keep us posted to!

Hey congratulations, looks like you're off to a promising start. My partner's not excited about my beard either. It's gotten to be a bit much, but I love being bearded and can't imagine any time soon I'll shave. Maybe we can put them together to start a support group?

Okay, guys, here's an update at about 5.5 weeks. Sorry for the messy hair and the glasses—it's a lazy Saturday. I keep having to trim the mustache to keep it from curling into my mouth, and I carved a neckline so that I don't look quite so homeless at work. It's filling in, but it's still looking a bit thin overall. I do see some small colorless hairs in a couple of the patchier spots, though, so hopefully that's a good sign.

Hi Jeff,
Your beard is coming along well. Definitely continue to give it time to grow. You have a strong moustache and goatee area and the sides are filling in nicely. Remember that fair hair can take longer to show up and at minimum you need to give your beard 2-3 months of growing time. In regards to the neckline, it looks like you've done a good job both placing and shaping it. Continued good luck.
