I usually don't get the sides even and I usually end up needing a complete shave down unfortunately, any secrets to getting the sides even? Is that with electric or hand razor? It was a risk the first time I did it. I really just studied the side profile of a pic of Commander Riker and tried to emulate the style on one side of my face. Then I did the other side. I used a wet razor to do it. I'm pretty sure that the two sides aren't perfectly symmetrical; but that doesn't bother me too much. Be cautious at the start. Don't cut a big swathe in your first pass. Instead, start at the cheek border of the beard and shave off a few millimeters at a time until gradually the Riker takes shape.
