I am a seasonal beard grower (max so far 4 months), but have been sporting a completely shaved head for many years. In addition to my professional job, I occasionally work part-time as a night club bouncer, so in addition to the tactical advantage, the polished dome lends a bit of an intimidating look to my presence. That said, I think that the baldness has probably been a factor in my decision to keep shaving off the winter beard - i.e. it just doesn't look quite "right" with the bald head when the beard gets longer. I'm curious as to how many of you rock this look? I'm in my mid 30's, and my actual hairline has long since receded (think Jason Statham), so if I let my hair grow, it looks more natural but makes me look significantly older, and certainly more like an accountant than a bouncer. (I'm actually an engineer during the week).
When I grow my beard, I trim it to taper / blend the sideburns into my shaved head level with the top of my ears. Any baldies here that do anything different? Also, my beard is starting to go salt and pepper on me, so maybe the hair making me look older is a moot point?
I keep thinking that I'd like to grow my beard out beyond the winter climbing season, but I always end up staring in the mirror in February thinking "this doesn't look like me", and caving and shaving. Any thoughts / comments on beards and baldness?
