I caution you to think long and hard about trimming. A lot of guys start off wanting to do a light trim, and end up butchering their beards. I don't mean to be negative or scare you into not trimming, but you need to be careful. Sometimes you may have a vision of how the trim will go, and it may not end up the way you thought. Some guys end up trimming way too much, then shave out of frustration. If your goal is to keep a longer style beard, then an overtrim can be devastating. Don't use a trimmer at all. Use small beard/mustache scissors and do minor adjustments. I recommend doing it in stages, possibly over a period of time. After you do a minor trim, take a shower and see how it lays after. Give it a few days even. Trimming is not something to be taken lightly, especially considering the amount of time you spend growing that fine beard. I wish you good luck with your goals. Beard on!
