Gentlemen,
As I've mentioned before, I suffer from IGA Nephropathy, which damages the kidneys. The best treatment option is a kidney transplant. I am fortunate enough to have 6 people who agreed to be tested as possible living donors. The initial focus was on my immediate family; my dad and four siblings were all tested. My mom couldn't consider donating as she is diabetic. Anyways, my sister was the only one to pass the initial blood type testing and went on to the cross matching test. In February, she completed the final testing necessary, and it was determined that she is a really good match. We are scheduled for a kidney transplant operation next week. I have been on dialysis for 3 1/2 years and am excited about the possibilities that a transplant brings. I am nervous too, and have a 6-8 week recovery period to go through, as well, but this should be a step in the right direction.
