I've read how to tail the stache but I just have one question. Is there a time that it maybe gets too long? And if so when. If I lay mine flat down it touches my bottom lip. I've been combing to the sides and applying wax to keep in place, I was just wondering about when maybe it's ok to trim it. Thanks for the words of advice.
Well, in my book a stache can never be too long  I stopped trimming mine at all more than two years ago.

Frankly it all depends on what you prefer.  Obviously I prefer a very long mustache and I do so for a couple of reasons.  First, I, as many others, have found that a longer mustache is actually easier to live with than a shorter on because once the hairs get long enough they just sweep to the sides and generally stay out of your mouth.  It takes a few months to achieve that length though, but take a look at the 'Taming the Wild Mustache' thread in my signature below for tips on how to train it.  Second, I think a beard generally looks best when the mustache is slightly longer than the rest of the beard.

Many guys, though, prefer the look and feel of a trimmed mustache.  In that case you generally what to trim is so that it drapes a bit below your upper lip lest the sharp, trimmed ends turn your upper lip into a pincushion.  Take a look at BeardedinBC's thread for a tutorial on how he trims is stunning beard and mustache.

My suggestion is that you try letting it grow out first.  If it turns out you don't like that you can always trim it back.

Cheers!
Tom
