Not many 22 year olds can grow a beard and mustache like that. Nothing looks thin on your face.

So if you want epic, just let it grow. Mustaches are slow, so I would say that at 6 months or so your mustache is no where near terminal. My mustache has been untrimmed except for the tip for about three years. I do think the center sections reached terminal at around 2 years. A long mustache with a beard gives you styling options. A handlebar style is only on occasion for me. For most days, I just comb it to the sides and use a blow dryer to set it enough to keep it out of my mouth and let the tips blend in with my beard. I may or may not add some product to help keep it in place, depending on my mood. On occasion, I will take the time to shape the tips into a handlebar. That takes me about 15 minutes of work to get it in place.

So my suggestion is to let it grow, and have fun with it. Keep us posted.
