He also seems to be traveling back in time. The info on the GCX is dated 15AUG07 (#950).
Grizz, the GCX display showing August 7th was reporting the altitude anomaly over the Rocky Mountains that occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning while the Sheriff was apparently asleep. The flight continued normally from that point across the Ozark and Appalachian Mountains, over New York City, and on to Cape Cod. The subsequent systems failures occurred underwater on Saturday, August 8th after the submersible had separated from the aerial transport carrier and launched into ocean. I have suspicions that the altitude anomaly may be related to the submarine disaster, but until I can talk with the Sheriff again, we won't know anything for certain.

Even so, Grizz, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if LEGO-Sheriff Triibeard had some sort of time-travel technology up his sleeve, but that doesn't seem to be in play at this time.

It would appear that the Rescue of LEGO-Sheriff Triibeard is already underway in the thread of our German friend Dantes. A dauntless sea captain and his mighty vessel have already arrived to search the northwest coast of Corvo, the smallest island in the archipelago of the Azores. Whoever sent the Morse-coded message knew exactly where the Sheriff had washed onto the shoals at 39 degrees 43 minutes 31 seconds north latitude, 31 degrees 07 minutes 14 seconds west longitude.

The Portuguese name "Ilha do Corvo" means Island of the Crow, and it is known for the remarkably steep cliffs that plunge from this ancient volcano into the sea. There won't be much of a beach to stage a rescue.
