Dude- that's a nice beard you have there! It turned out very well. It's thick enough! The sides will look fuller with a bit more length, but ... you don't need to do anything! It looks fine! It will continue to develop well into your 20s, 30s and 40s, so, yes, it could thicken up more. Yes, if you feel you need to get a brush, get a boars bristle brush and that will help tidy it up along with the beard balm. Curly beards look cool. I have curls and waves in mine. A boars brush and balm will help as well as a hair dryer. I sometimes use a hair dryer to help straighten out some of my waves/curls. Dude - it looks great and you have done a great job in maintaining! On that note - should we move you over to Short Established Beards?? Let me know man!
