Welcome to the board... you have some pretty good facial hair starting... the goatee is very strong, the sides and stache are good but still developing. You do not yet have the side coverage nor the stache to pull off the Travis look yet. When your sides develop a little further, I believe you could pull off his look.

The picture from the earlier time is a really good look for you at this time because it picks up your beard strengths and it looks very neat and intentional.  It is the beard of a younger man and one reason it would be good for you.  At this point, however, I would keep the full sides [instead of carving to chinstrap] just to see what that looks like with the trimmed goatee. You can always cut it back to chinstrap if you require more neatness.

It would not be my first choice to grow the goatee big, but if you like this better, then perhaps cut back on everything else and have the just the goatee as the focal point.

One thing you must remember is that your beard is in full development and if you let it all grow, you can see and assess that development to make better choices on your style. It could take some months or even some years for your beard to complete this development, so you either accept this mixed coverage [my suggestion] or regrow it every 6 months or so to see how it is progressing.   It is a mental adjustment to accept the coverage you have now, not be disappointed in the beard you can now show and have patience as the more complete beard comes.

For now, keep growing and show updates every couple weeks or every month.  Always say how you feel about progress so we can better advise you.
