Travelling through Asia I've come across a wide variety of wooden combs for cheap ($1~$2). The quality is pretty good on these and it has given me the opportunity to experiment a bit with shapes and sizes and teeth spacing.

For my beard (dense and curly) I find that a wooden comb with close tooth spacing really does a great job at fluffing it and shaping it. I have a spare one that I keep in my back pocket, but with wide spacing and although this one also doesn't cause any discomfort, it doesn't do as good as a job than the other one.

The plastic comb I was using before would snag my hairs (more so with wider spacing) and I've tried cheap and expensive ones, all pretty much the same.
