You can definitely grow a terrific Riker-style beard and if that's your goal than by all means continue with it.

That being said - you have the coverage and density to grow lots of different styles - Usually what's recommended on the board is to grow everything out (but keep a tidy neckline about 1 cm above your Adam's apple) for the first 13 weeks in order to get a good picture of what your beard can produce. At that point you can carve it back into the look that you want - it's easier to do this at 13 weeks, because you can really see the full picture.
