I'm in agreement with Wahoo, I'd let it all grow. That said, seeing some closer pictures of your coverage would help to determine what type of growth you have and what type of style you could sport. Nothing wrong with curly hair or waviness either (I'd better be okay with it as I've got it). I'm also of the approach not to mess with straighteners, etc. Your beard will be more manageable as you grow it out. A 2-3 month growth period would be a good starting goal.
