You may find people in a similar position on the Teen subforum. At your age I wouldn't worry about the cheeks - beards can still be developing in your twenties through to your forties or beyond. Nothing but time and patience will help you get there.

I don't think it looks too bad (which is Australian for 'it looks good'). You can find trimmers designed to specifically maintain the Hugh Laurie look if you so desire. Beard hair is surprisingly different to head hair, so it's not the least bit surprisingly that it gains curliness with length despite your straight head hair.

Only you can say what's best for you and what you're comfortable with. Beyond trimming it shorter if you so desire, I say make like Paul McCartney and let it be.
