So, a couple of days ago BikeBeard posted a topic about his method for tying up a long beard for work safety. It's an awesome post,  here's the link http://jefffsbeardboard.yuku.com/topic/23962/How-I-deal-with-a-long-beard-at-work The technique blew my mind and I had to try it.

I was surprised at how simple and effective it was. My picture in the above topic was my first attempt. I spent 4-5 minutes on it. My braiding skills need a tune up. I slept that night with the beard tied up. I think this is the ultimate test of the durability of the method. I'm happy to say that my beard stayed tied tight through the night and as an added bonus it never once got stuck between myself, my wife or anything else in our sleeping area. This was quite refreshing.

The next day I tied it up again after a shower. It was easier this time because the beard was tangle-free, but I spent more time making it look better than the first time. I managed to do a pretty good job. Did not get a picture of it right away, though. We had dinner with my in-laws that afternoon and I had fun with them believing that I had trimmed. The didn't even believe me when I finally told them that it was all there. I did get this pic after dinner, about 6 hours after it was first tied up.

Perhaps the best part of this whole thing is that my wife really likes it. She doesn't nag about my beard, but several times a week she politely suggests that it might be time for a trim. She's always liked a short, full beard on me. Unfortunately, the super long moustache, which is totally fuggin rad with a big beard, just doesn't work with the tied beard. It looks ridiculous.

I thought this would be a decent length.

This is where it ended up.

And after another night with the same tie job.

I'm really happy with the moustache trim and I'm still super excited about learning this technique. The only thing I don't like is the shorter hairs that pop out after a while. They can be controlled for a couple of hours with wax or pommade, but after they pop out the beard looks kind of scraggly from any closer than 10 feet.

Also would like to share some pic of my bearded band members from a festival we played a couple of weeks ago.

This pic is great. And the dude is even more cool than the pic makes him look.

My Uncle on mandolin. Everything I know about music, I learned from this guy. He's growing a big beard.
