An excellent beard, and you should be feeling very pleased with the results. You have no need to be concerned by the small gap in your stache. This is very common. It is likely it will fill in gradually, but really does not detract from the overall appearance of the beard you currently have. A little frustrating perahps, but really not important. As for carving the cheeks, that has to be your decision. I can understand why you feel you want to remove the more sparse growth, but if it were mine, I think i'd give it a while longer before doing so.
