My mustache isn't very thick, and I want to make it appear more thick, so lately I've been brushing it down instead of the the side. Is this an alright decision? I feel it looks a little fuller.
Well, first, let's look at the bright side... you learned how to use a trimmer... so now with all the experience, you will not make any more trimmer mistakes, right? I assume you don't need to hear what I have to say on the missing goatee and chinstrap... but it's your beard and I want you to be happy with your choices... and I will support those happy choices.
On the handlebar, I would stay vertical until you feel the need to trim and at that point I would start brushing sideways. As the hairs grow, the stache will bulk up and with the extra width of the horizontal hair you have the bigger stache look. I would stick with the straight out look and forget the handlebar for right now. Good luck with your beard growing and enjoy your trip to Europe.
