Robbeard, Wow! I don't know if I have the diligence to reach the magnificent length of your beard, but I do agree it seems easier at this time in my life. It is a new season for me. A larger beard for me will conceal the underbite I've had since young adulthood, so I'm going more for fullness around my face than length down my neck. I've been attempting to "train" the moustache by frequent strokes to the sides with a small brush. Does that actually work, or does shape training depend mostly on the application of adhesives? I tried waxing it thirty years ago, but it seemed to require more fussiness than I cared for. Do you or any other reader have a favorite beard product you can recommend?

Length is a question of time. Don't choose for length of fullness, the beard will do it itself. If you force the beard to do other things, it will be hard to maintain. As I can see your beard-hairs are rather straight, I'm afraid your beard will choose for length. Embrace what you've got, that's your singularity.
For some time I used Firehouse wax because it's strong and the only one to resist moisture. But  I don't like the 'plastic' feeling of the waxed moustache. Now I only blow-dry to keep it oriented to the sides. My beard grows higher on the cheeks than my moustache. For some time it was difficult to lay the moustache upon the cheeks while it got pushed back. Now that the moustache is longer at the sides, it's blending in and all problems are gone. I can eat now without the aid of napkins, straws, ..., but when I don't blow-dry it's still a messy thing.
