Just going to keep going for now.
I've been noticing people looking at me as if i'm an alien or something in town, since most people where i live all look the same (white, shaved/short hair, clean-shaven or that 'designer stubble' that they try and imitate from celebrities). Just yesterday i was walking with some friends past two stereotypical 'hard nuts' and one of them told me to f*** off you f*****g long-haired ****. Quite an interesting experience...
Also one of my friends seems to be fixed on the idea that i don't have 'a real look', by which he means that i'm not following a style that can be labelled or categorised as people find it easy to do. I think this is really prevalent, trying to label people by how they look and dress, and i really dislike it.
This same friend also told me to get a haircut, to which i replied: 'look around, do you see a man with long hair?' - As i said, 99.9% of men where i live have the same short hairstyles so it is incredibly rare to see someone with hair that isn't very short and it is even rarer to see a man with a beard that isn't incredibly short.
This turned into a bit of a rant...
It's ok rant away

Where do you live where everyone still thinks it is 1950?
