i have turned down a job opportunity before because the guy told me during the interview process that any kind of facial hair was prohibited. I kindly told him
thanks for the opportunity but I think I would like to continue my job search elsewhere.

Depends on how much I get paid, lol.
In all honesty if it was a job I wanted and would enjoy alot, I think I would have to sacrifice the beard. I'm going to college to be an art teacher, and when I go for an interview I will probably go clean shaven, or with atleast a nice professional look. If I get the job though, I would grow it out once I got settled in and comfortable. I've had a few teachers with beards, so I don't think it's too big of a problem. |

It would depend on several factors. My answer matches Dano's, as is usually the case.
Millions? Sure, for a while. An average J.O.B.? Lord no. Why work for average pay for someone with a below average outlook on manliness? |

well Lighteagle people understand that word...manliness differently. ofc you have the right to keep your beard and continue searching until you find a job.
there is no need to back off and do as others would expect you to do. now personally i belive that there might be some situatsion in life where shaving is necessary but usually these situatsions are very very rare. |

I am a teacher too and I think that beards are okay as long as they are kept nice. for a teaching interview though I would want to make darn sure that I looked my best so shaving might be just a temporary sacrafice until you can grow it back once the job is yours. Iam still debateing whether or not to keep my beard and let it keep growing when I start teaching my class in September. |

Kramer wrote:Sounds as though you think that you do not look your best bearded, Kramer. In which case why grow one at all? Besides which, I think that in going for interview clean-shaven and then growing the beard back afterwards if you get the job is not being 100% above board with your employers. I would have thought that perhaps a shaved head on a teacher might attract more comment than a beard, but that's just my personal opinion. wulff |

I feel if it came down to unemployment over keeping a beard I should choose to shave for the job.
Luckily for me the in field of work I am planning on going into being bearded is no issue. In fact, being an engineer and having a beard seem to go hand in hand I have noticed recently, at least around school.

I'd shave but immediately start looking for work some place else.

I would shave, but luckily the place I'm getting hired at doesn't have a facial hair requirement, just that I keep my hair moderately short.
