How does it stack up against others my age?
What can I do to stimulate more even growth?
Does competitive swimming affect the growth?

19- one year growth |

Been growing a mustache for roughly a year now- the stubble is not intentional, it's three days growth I neglected lately due to WSI training.
How does it stack up against others my age? What can I do to stimulate more even growth? Does competitive swimming affect the growth?
If so, what can I do?

That is one seriously beastly mustache for someone your age. That's something you'd normally see on a guy in his 30's, not at 19.

The mustache is rockin. At your age I wouldn't do anything to try and stimulate the growth. Compared to other guys your age I'd say you're pretty
hairy in the face. I don't think competative swimming will hurt the mustache but the chlorine might have done something to your hair. Just kidding. My hair
was long once and I know how crazy it can get. I would just treat the stache the same as your head hair. Make sure to rinse the chlorine out of it and use
conditioner on it or it might get kinda stressed-out looking. You could obviously try for a chinstrap or many other styles if you wanted. Looks like you have
plenty of stubble.

Awesome 'stache! It's great to see a teen willing and able to grow a solo-stache nowadays. Sadly, it's not very common at least where I'm from
in the Western USA.
Where are you from?

I am thoroughly impressed with the moustache. Good job. So many have lacking moustaches but yours is stellar. |

Wow, thanks.
I live in southern California and am largely growing it because my father has one and I always liked it. I really should shave it off to reduce drag while swimming, but I like it too much. I notice it thinning out slightly on the upper part of my right side during swim season, it may just be turning blond by the sun; my hair does the same thing... |

I don't think you can prove that the 'stache, as big as it is, causes drag.
Mark Spitz had one, as did John Nabor. In fact there is a funny story about Spitz. After winning the 7 golds, the Soviet coach asked him why he wore a stache since clearly it would add drag. He replied (tongue in cheek) that it was quite the opposite as it allowed the water to flow over the mouth with less drag. Apparently in the next Olympics (or maybe World Championships) all the Soviet swimmers had moustaches! The coach apparently took Spitz seriously.
Patience shall be rewarded!

Exercise is perfect for beard growth or any body related thing... so yea it's good. Awesome mustache, strong stubbles for 3 days. Welcome to the board!

Very nice moustache, especially on a 19 year old.
I'm approaching my one-year anniversary with my moustache, too. Don't let anyone tell you it's "disgusting" or that you need to shave it. I really think that the farther West you go, the more lax people are in regards to facial hair. For instance, I live in West Virginia, and everywhere I go, people are down on my facial hair. But last year, I was in Denver for my brother's wedding, and I had some mega-huge sidies, and people everywhere would comment (glowingly) that they thought my sidies were cool. So, I think that the farther West you go, the more laid-back style is good for facial hair. Keep growing that thing, man. |
