JohnSmith - Don Young is Republican. Most of us are conservative republicans here in Alaska, but I'm undeclared personally. So I think your inclination is right.

Twice in public, I heard that beardedness is the "Alaskan Style". With the exception of banks and some customer service areas, like Safeway brand stores, beards seem to be easily accepted. My local Blockbuster has an employee who I call, "My bearded Idol", though not to his face...maybe I should...Anyway, he has a big and full dwarvish beard. I see some cooks too who have various beard styles. Even waiters! The waiters keep theirs short and trimmed. Perhaps longer beards aren't accepted on waiters here.

Don Young currently has a short and trimmed full beard. Lately he has been in re-election adds, and discussed on the news. It would be cool if he grew his beard to that length again. Perhaps he will.

I honestly don't know much about him. I just noticed that he had a beard and found out that he was Republican. I'm not all that up on my politics. But from the info that you put, Barbamor, I have to say that what Don Young said was pretty screwed up.
