Hey, havn't been logged in for a long time, got 2 pics for you guys. Not alot of angles, but I've had the full beard for 2 or 3 months and thought
I'd get at least one picture before I trimmed it down. Heres a pic with full beard and chinstrap. I think I might go to a goatee next, not sure. Any
suggestions?

Good job: the carved-out look was cool, though both versions are fine.

Vlad, you asked for suggestions so here's my two cents worth.
Don't see why you need to do all that carving. Far to much maintenance. From the second photo, it looks like you have a cheek line that would require no blade work at all. I'm not saying that your carved-look is bad, but why go through all that work each day when you have a more easily attained full beard. As for a goat, that would require even more work on a daily basis. |

Both versions of your beard look great. Still, I agree with Beardster. I think you should keep your fuller cheekline.

The full beard looks a lot better especially with that natural looking check line that you have.

Vlad,
As you see from the earlier responses, we'd call it a "carved out" beard style, not a chinstrap. A chinstrap doesn't really have a connecting moustache and tends to be a little thinner as well. As for how it looks, I think with the big curly hairstyle you have, a shorter beard gets kind of overwhelmed...in other words, it's not as noticeable as it would be if your hair were shorter or if the beard were longer. If you prefer to keep your beard a bit understated, then the carved out style or even the trimmed full beard style looks good. I suspect a trimmed goatee will have a similar effect. If you want your beard to stand out, then I'd suggest you grow it to a couple inches in length at least, or have a long goatee. Or you could trim your hair way back, but I suspect you like it the way it is or you'd have done that already! Hope that helps.
Patience shall be rewarded!

You look good in both pics - I think the carved out style is a cool contrast to your hairstyle and that the fuller version could overwhelm your look with hair
if you go much bushier/longer.
Generally I prefer fuller, but on you I like the contrast of the neat carved out style - as I said its a cool beard either way and you wear both styles well. |

Thanks for all the replys and suggestions.
Vlad, you asked for suggestions so here's my two cents worth.Yeah the full beard is definately alot less maintenance than the carved out, but I just got bored of it after a couple months so I carved it back out. Cheek line is mostly natural, just trimmed a couple stray hairs higher up. I've had a goatee before the full beard and its more maintenance than the full beard but less than the carved out. You look good in both pics - I think the carved out style is a cool contrast to your hairstyle and that the fuller version could overwhelm your look with hair if you go much bushier/longer. Yeah I've thought the same thing which is why I kept it trimmed short. If you want your beard to stand out, then I'd suggest you grow it to a couple inches in length at least, or have a long goatee. Or you could trim your hair way back, but I suspect you like it the way it is or you'd have done that already! I actually just cut 2 inches off my hair a couple weeks ago, and right now I'm debating cutting it short into some sort of mohawk but I don't know yet. |

Vlad, don't cut your hair any shorter.
You have a very individual and unique look going on already. No need to do the extreme mohawk. Everyone nowadays has buzzed or very short hair in combo with a chinstrap or goat. You want to look like Vlad and not like everyone else, right!! Just let your beard get a little more fuller and it will balance out with your "Vlad" hair! In the end you'll be glad you you listened to me. I know for a fact that girls prefer a guy with hair that they can run their hands through. You buzz it off, and you'll be very sorry. |

I wasn't gonna do an extreme mohawk. Not one where the sides are shaved and it sticks a foot in the air.
I was thinking more of sides and back trimmed fairly short and the top faded to the middle and spiked up. I just don't know if I'd be able to maintain it and also if I'll even be able to get it to stay up because my hair's curly. |

I've always been partial to the carved-out look, but both ways look really great in my opinion. Awesome natural cheekline, you could go either way I think.

I think there is no need to carve anything.
Just let it grow natural, and trim it once in a while so it doesn't get to wild... Your natural cheek line is very nice |

Yeah I'm think I'm gonna grow the full beard back but I might shave everything off first just to do it. Havn't shaved for a year and a half now, so maybe its time to shave and regrow. I'll keep you guys updated with pics whatever I decide to do. |

I agree they both look awesome on you. But in my opinion the full bearded look is the best. Im impressed that you can grow such a thick beard at your age. keep
it up, but either way the look is great.
