Beard Friendly Posts: 49 Apr 9 12 8:08 PM More My Recent Posts	Tags : red, grey, neck trimming I have been on a mission for the past few months of letting my beard go. I have had a couple weak moments and given it the usual trim but I want to get serious. This morning, as I woke up and in that dreamy state in between sleep and wake, I had the idea to check the interwebs for a forum. I had a picture of what it would look like in my mind. How surprised I was to find this one. A simple google search of "how do you grow a big beard" brought me here. The "Graceland" of facial hair. I have never had some many man-crushes at one time. You guys... are awesome. Currently, I have a good six week growth... I think. I'm not entirely sure of when I last gave it the trim but that's my best guess. I'm not entirely sure what to do with the neck. Usually, when I'm keeping it trimmed I shave it up to the part where my neck becomes my 'under-chin'. I've let it go for the past week until I decide what I should do with it. Suggestions? I also didn't notice those whisps of distinguished grey coming in around the chin area. Not sure how I feel about that yet.... Red

It is really up to you whether or not you want to leave it or not, but generally I wouldn't put a neck line much higher than just above the Adams apple. Keep in mind though this is all personal preference. Cool colour and welcome to the board.

At about 4 months I was disappointed that I had done so because that hair wasn't blending in to the rest of my neck beard as I wanted. At about 6 months, the only one who could tell there was a length discrepancy was me... So, it is certainly no problem to start with a defined neckline but, like the others said, if you want a big beard, don't underestimate the power of a natural neckline to add significant fullness. Looks like you have good potential - red beards are always cool and grey beards are even cooler grey is good ~ there are no bad beard days

Beard Elite Posts: 348 Apr 10 12 10:24 AM More My Recent Posts	Great color, about what I used to have prior to the gray onslaught. If you are wanting to grow big, I'd abandon the neckline now. Within another month or so you can just brush your neck up and toward your chin and it will likely just blend in, that's what mine did. Just wanted to clear one thing up. I've had a couple interesting private messages that indicate that I may have been a bit misleading in my first post... We have, perhaps, a different definition for "man crush" where I'm from. By "man crush" I mean, I've seen some pretty awesome dudes on here that would I think would be cool to have a beverage with and watch the game. Happily married (straight) man. At any rate, you're ALL awesome!

"That thing is going to be so hot when Summer comes." I just brush them off by making a joke about the sweet braids I'm going to put in this bad boy in a few months. But the truth is, I really don't understand why they care. They'll come around I'm sure. It's just something new to them (and me to a large extent) and will take some getting used to. On the flip side, I asked the Missus what she thought of me growing a big beard and her sweet answer was amazing and a credit to all you guys who belong to this community: "I think you'll look good, besides, maybe it's because I'm a bit of a hippy but usually guys who grow big beards are really awesome people." That alone is inspiration enough to keep me going. Red

If it weren't for the fact that I could see my beard when I look down I would have no idea it was even there.

Not trimming the neck will give you a much bigger beard. I am glad that at 6 weeks you are doing this. I waited until 4 months before I abandoned trimming the neck line. I wish I had started that earlier, but it does not matter anymore with the big beard that I now have. Also, beards are not hotter in the summer. Ignore that myth about beards. I am actually cooler with my big beard in the summer and I live in the desert of Arizona where it gets up to 40 to 45 degrees or hotter just about every day! The big beard keeps me cooler by keeping the sun off of my skin and acting as a wick to sweep the sweat away.
